What does a rational Christian mean? One that believes a bit less ;) ? I am not one of those; but i really do not buy must of the crappy "pro-Christian scientific theories" out there.
1. I personally do not. Evolution is a theory that is at least true referring to each species in particular. I am quite convinced that the rest is false, but then again I am not a biologist so I cannot asses that (nor believe people who claim they can)
2. This is not entirely stupid. If evolution is proven wrong well, the explanation that all species were created by God..."directly" - although not even a scientific theory - becomes much more likely.
Of course, the falsity of the theory of evolution will automatically prove God's existence only if creationism or something of the sort will also be proven right. The funny thing is that if creationism is proven right, then God's existence is proven anyway, so no need to involve Darwinism here..
3. Do not have all the theoretical background, however did some small research myself (and still doing). I may still know the answer, but i lack the terms or ability to synthesize it in a comprehensible way.
4. Yes.
5. This is a sophistic question, won't answer ;). Yes, so are 1& 2, but I've chosen to answer those nevertheless.
But yeah, people who believe that god's existence can be proven scientifically are completely wrong (i do not exclude other proofs; hell, I have proofs of my own). If God's existence could be proved in a finite reasoning system, than all the smart people who will understand the proof will find god. However, God does treat people the same regardless of the IQ so He won't allow a group of people (the smart ones) to be privileged in knowing Him (he did that somewhat with the Jews, but now - with Christ - this won't happen again) . So this is the contradiction ;).
